Cagliari – Lazio 19.05.2013

Boosted by the 2:0 win over Sampdoria, Lazio travel to Sardinia to take on Cagliari in the season finale.

Laciali face a must win situation as they are currently just two points adrift of European places.

Cagliari have long ago established themselves as genuine mid table side in the Serie A and this season the team secured playing in the elite division for yet another term. Rossobluˈs dip in form is evident as the season is coming to an end. Cagliari are currently on a six-game winless streak and I would not be surprised if they continue their negative run in the season finale against very motivated Lazio side. Poor performances at the back are proving to be a major issue, with the team scoring no more then 1 goal in last 4 games in the league. That could prove to be a major worry against Lazioˈs defence, which has been very solid of late. Rossoblu have nothing to play for in this match, the season is already finished for Ivo Pulgaˈs men, therefore, I am positive the visitors are likely to pick up all three points from Stadio Sant’Elia. Cagliari lost every one of last three encounters against Lazio in the Serie A and that is another reason why I would not put my money on the hosts this weekend.

Lazio were on a verge of booking their place in the Champions League, but after a poor run of results at the start of the New Year, the Biancocelesti would be satisfied with a place in the Europa League. The team is currently on a three-match winning run, but they are still two points adrift of European places, meaning that Vladimir Petkovicˈs men face a must-win situation in the last day of the campaign at Stadio Sant’Elia. Udinese, who are two points clear of Lazio and sitting in the European berth, face a very difficult task as they travel to Milano to take on Internazionale at Giuseppe Meazza stadium. Therefore, Lazio need a victory against Cagliari and to hope for a good news from Milano if they are to secure their place in the Europa League. With the likes of Miroslav Klose up front, I believe that Laciali are strong favourite to win this important clash in their race for European competitions.
