Czech R. – Poland 16.06.2012

Although the winner of this tie would secure its place in the quarter-finals, Czech Republic can also make it into the final 8 with one point from this match, provided Greece don’t win the other group game.

The Czechs faced a tough task after the 4-1 defeat to Russia in the opening round, but the team bounced back and managed to get a 2-1 win over Greece by scoring two goals in the opening exchanges. Coach Michal Bilek has received a huge boost ahead of this crunch tie, with team doctor declaring that both Tomas Rosicky and Petr Cech should be fit to start the game.

Poland have had a rocky start to their campaign seeing they failed to defeat Greece in a game they pretty much should’ve won, but they made up for their slip-up with another 1-1 draw in an impressive showing against Russia. A very good display against a strong opponent should fill the White Eagles with confidence and a win against the Czechs means they are certain to go through. Coach Franciszek Smuda could face some decision-making as Damien Perquis, Dariusz Dudka and Eugen Polanski picked up injuries last last time out and the trio is now rated 50-50 for tonight’s game.
With both teams looking for a win, we should be in for an interesting match. Everything points to a close game, however the co-hosts should be feeling pretty confident going into this one and I could definitely see them a narrow win and a place in the next round.
