Last places filled in Uefa Champions League 2012/13
Everything is ready for 2012/2013’s Uefa Champions League group stage draw since five teams managed to arrange their place for Monaco on Wednesday. While CFR Cluj, Celtic, Dynamo Kiev and Lille have been successfull at home in the second leg, Spartak Moscow were only team which deserved to move to the next stage as a visitor.
There is no doubt that the tie between Lille and Kopenhagen was the most exciting; because the winning team was understood after the extra time. After Digne’s goal levelled the tie, Tulio De Melo’s was a priceless one as it took French side to the group stages. When Dynamo Kiev have defeated Mönchengladbach with a very advantegous result in the first leg, it was thought that the second leg will be an easy one for the home fans; but Ukranian fans had to watch a scary movie in the late minutes of the second half. Ideye Brown’s goal ended the fans stop sweating.
Despite losing the first leg with a narrow defeat, it could be said that Fenerbahce were very hopeful to reach to the group stage at home in the second leg; but early goal of Ari ruined their plans and then Turkish side pressured to come back and kept their hopes alive with Sow’s goal. Their late efforts did not bring any positive results for them.
Helsingborg have arrived to Scotland with a little hope; but Celtic showed no mercy to them as manager Neil Lennon’s team repeated the first leg’s result at home against Swedish side. Since 2008/09, Scottish side will join for the first time to the group stages of Uefa Champions League.
Pablo Kapetanos’ decisive header was good enough to win the second leg too for CFR Cluj over Basel. What is more important point was to reach to group stages of Europe’s top club competition for the third time in five years. In fact, the result could be different for Swiss team, if Alexander Frei did not miss a penalty kick in the first half.
