Mladost – Videoton 11.07.2013

Following a 2:1 win over Mladost, Videoton travel to Podgorica to take on Montenegrins in the return leg of the first round of Europa League qualifiers.

Even though the Hungarians have a slim lead, I believe that they will adopt an attack-minded approach.

Mladost Podgorica opened their Europa League campaign in great manner. The Montenegrin team took an early lead thanks to Bozo Markovicˈs goal from the penalty spot after just three minutes. Mladost defended well, but the hosts managed to equalize in 35th minute. Paulo Vinicius scored a goal, but it seemed as if he the ball had hit his hand before he found the net. Six minutes later Girso hit a stunner from the free-kick and Videoton sealed a 2:1 victory ahead of the return leg of Europa League qualifications round 1. Mladost Podgorica now need a 1:0 victory to make it to the second round, but beating the Hungarian side is easier said than done. There are no doubts that Mladost will adopt an attack-minded approach at home soil, meaning that the visitors will have their chances on the counter-attack. The Reds are unlikely to reach the second round of Europa League qualifications, and I do not believe that there is a value in betting on them in this clash.

Videoton, on the other hand, fought really hard to overcome a one goal deficit in the clash against Mladost Podgorica. Vidi are surely brimming with confidence ahead of the second leg and I am sure that they will not defend a 2:1 lead as they are superior to their rivals. With the likes of Mamadu Cande, Paulo Vinicius, Jose Alvarez and Felipe Oliveira in the squad (all foreign players) the Hungerian team are surely huge favourites to make it to the second round of Europa League qualifiers. 2010–11 Hungarian league winners produces promising displays in last yearˈs edition of Europa League. Vidi were even on the verge of making it to the play-offs but following a 2:1 defeat to Sporting Lisabon in the last round of the group stage, the Hungarians were eliminated from the competition. Videoton should not face any difficulties in the return leg against Mladost Podgorica and I believe that they will cruise past their opponents.
