Norwich – Tottanham 30.01.2013
Norwich are in a very difficult situation after taking just one point from last six league fixtures, meaning they have no choice but to try and win this game. Tottenham will be looking to make amends for the FA Cup defeat to Leeds and further improve their excellent away record.
Norwich chiefs did their best to properly reinforce the squad during off season in order to escape the second-season syndrome, but the team, nonetheless, had a pretty disappointing start to the league campaign. The Canaries then showed a massive improvement to go nine games unbeaten, but things have started taking a turn for the worse once again. Chris Hughton’s side have no lost five of their last six league matches, while sharing spoils with Newcastle at home, so they clearly don’t have much to hope for before the visit of Tottenham. Norwich also became the first Premier League side to lose to a non-league opponent after 24 years, having lost at home to Luton Town at the weekend. It will be difficult for the players to recover from several massive blows and find enough confidence to match a very good Tottenham side, which is why I don’t think the Canaries can get something from this match.
After some initial struggles under Andre Villas-Boas, Tottenham quickly returned to the right track and showed everyone they will be serious top 4 contenders. While Spurs may have experienced more problems than expected at their White Hart Lane, struggling to break their opponents that defended in numbers, they have been absolutely brilliant on the travels, with their 6-1-4 record second only to three title contenders. The match against Manchester United proved Spurs can be lethal when they are left enough space and with Norwich in desperate need of a victory, there is every chance Tottenham will have space to exploit at Carrow Road. Spurs did look very poor in their FA Cup clash against Leeds United, but with Jermain Defoe back to the side, and even Lewis Holtby in contention, they should be much more dangerous up front.
