Schalke – Hamburg 11.08.2013

Schalke have a good record against Hamburger in the last two season

– three victories on the last four mutual games. Schalke were dominant at home and won both games played at Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

Schalke will play against Ukrainian side Metalist in the qualifications for the group stage in UEFA Champions League. Even there are 10 days until that match, I am sure coach Jens Keller and the players are already thinking about Metalist. But Schalke have big and quality roster as some new players have joined the team – Goretzka, Wellenreuther, Hofmann, Clemens, Sergio Escudero, Szalai, Felipe Santana, Annan and Hoogland. And don’t forget Jan Klaas Huntelaar, the best striker in the squad. He started the new season in style and already scored one goal against Nottingen in the first round of DFB Pokal. The new acquisition Leon Goretzka was also the scorer on that match.

Hamburger bought three good and experienced players – Johan Djourou from Arsenal, Lasse Sobiech from Borusia Dortmund and the Cameroon striker Jacques Zoua from Basel. The fans expectations are much higher now and the coach Thorsten Fink will have a hard job to secure at least UEFA Europe league spot. Hamburger started with 4:0 victory over the lower division side of Schott Jena in DFB Pokal. Artjoms Rudnevs proved his form with two goals, while Rafael van der Vaart and Jacques Zoua were also the scorers.

Schalke are favorites on this match, the quality is on their side, as well as the home advantage, for me this is a clear home win. GL
