Switzerland – Brazil 14.08.2013

The Confederations Cup winners Brazil take on Switzerland in a friendly match at St. Jacob Park in Basel. With the two sides being unbeaten in last few months, it remains to be seen which side will end up their streak on Wednesday.

With four victories and two draws in their qualifying group Switzerland are on the verge of securing their place a the World Cup 2014. Ottmar Hitzfeldˈs men are on a nine-game unbeaten run, but the team face an uphill task this Wednesday as they take on the Confederations Cup winners Brazil at St. Jakob-Park stadium in Basel. Striker Alexander Frei is no longer in the Swiss squad, but with the likes of Bayern Munich star Shaqiri, Juventus right back Lichsteiner and Napoli midfielder Valon Behrami in the squad, the Swiss are likely to make life difficult for the South American giants. Switzerland come into this match following a 1:0 win over Cyprus on home soil in the World Cup qualifiers, with Haris Seferovic finding the net in the last minute of the clash. Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri will be very motivated to produce a good display at St. Jakob Park in Basel, as he returns to his former home stadium.

Boosted by a 3:0 trashing of Spain in the final of the Confederatins Cup, Brazil travel to Switzerland to take on in-form European side. The Brazilians are currently on a 11-match unbeaten run in all competitions and they will be aiming to raise their form even more ahead of the start of the World Cup 2014 on their soil. With the likes of Zenit star Hulk, Neymar, who has recently joined Barcelona, and great defenders Thiago Silva and David Luiz in the squad Selecao are considered one of the favourites to lift the trophy in front of home supporters, but that is easier said than done, with the Brazilians failing to win the World Cup since 2002. Nonetheless, the team have been making steady progress under new boss Luis Felipe Scolari and they will be looking to continue their brilliant unbeaten run when they take on Switzerland in a friendly game. When the two teams met in a friendly five years ago Brazil emerged triumphant (2:1).
