Augsburg – Dortmund 10.08.2013

Borussia Dortmund kick off their Bundesliga campaign with a game against Augsburg on the road.

The last seasonˈs runners-up are brimming with confidence following a 4:2 win over Bayern Munich in German Super Cup and I believe that the hosts will have a mountain to climb in this clash.

Following a 15th-place finish in Bundesliga last term, Augsburg start the new season with a home match against German giants Borussia Dortmund. Fuggerstadter were on the verge of relegation last season, but the team managed to secure yet another top flight survival in the season finale. The club chiefs have done remarkably well to reinforce the squad with the likes of Halil Altintop, former Bayern Munich player, joining the club. The Turkish superstar, who has been given the number seven shirt with FCB, will fill the void left by the departures of Ja-Cheol Koo and Dong-Won Ji after their respective loan spells came to an end. Over the last few seasons Augsburg have continued their habit of producing promising performances on home soil, while struggling on the travels. In the clash against Borussia Dortmund Fuggerstadter are considered underdogs and given that the team face difficulties when playing against top table sides, there is every chance the Millionaires will pick up all three points from this encounter.

Borussia Dortmund have already clinched the title this season following a brilliant 4:2 German Super Cup trashing of bitter rivals Bayern Munich. The Millionaires proved that they are capable of producing excellent displays even without Mario Gotze, who joined the Bavarians, in the squad. New signing striker Aubameyang did remarkably well in pre-season and the former St-Etienne player is likely to play in the starting line-up this term. With Polish striker Robert Lewandowski and Marco Reus still in the squad, Borussia Dortmund are surely capable of making life difficult for the defending champions Bayern Munich this season. At the weekend Jurgen Kloppˈs men cruised past Wilhelmshaven (3:0) to reach the next round of German Cup and the team will be aiming to continue their winning run when they take on Augsburg at SGL-Arena on Saturday. The Millionaires are likely to record a victory at the start of the new season against severely-weakened Augsburg side.
