Benfica – Chelsea 15.05.2013

Chelsea and Benfica, both eliminated from the Champions League group phase this term, take on each other in the Europa League final in Amsterdam. With the Portuguese side a little bit shaken following a defeat against Porto, I believe the Blues are likely to clinch yet another European title.

Benfica were on a verge of putting an end to Portoˈs domination in Primeira Liga, but Kelvinˈs late stunner gave Portistas what could be vital three points in the title race. Porto are currently one point clear of Benfica in the standings, with just one game to spare. It seems as if the Eagles will miss out on the Portuguese league title for yet another term, although they are having an amazing season. Taking all into account Benfica take on Chelsea in the Europa League final at Amsterdam Arena with a lack of confidence and could prove fatal for the Portuguese side. Benfica did really well in the competition after the team failed to book their place in the Champions last 16 round. The Eagles did especially well against Fenerbahce in the return leg were they managed to overcome a one goal deficit. Nevertheless, it seems as if Jorge Jesusˈ men face problems when playing away from home. Benfica look set for yet another disapointment following the defeat against Porto, therefore, I do not see a value in betting on the Eagles.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have already secured their place in the Champions League next term after the team came from behind at Villa Park to beat Aston Villa 2:1. The Blues failed to progress to the knock out phase of the Champions League this term, but the teamˈs performances have been promising in the Europa League, therefore, they totally deserved their place in the final at Amsterdam Arena. Rafa Benitezˈs men hope to become the fourth side to lift three major European trophies after they clinched the Champions League title last season. Rafa Benitez has some injury worries, but luckily for them their only striker available Fernando Torres have been in a great form of late. Chelsea are surely brimming with confidence ahead of the clash against Benfica after the team booked their place in the Champions League and given that the Blues are much more experienced side then Benfica, I believe that they are likely to lift yet another European title.
