Bologna has 2-1 victory against Atalanta last time out was their second win in a row at home and coach Stefano Pioli was delighted with their performance.
But this victories were against poor away teams like mentioned Atalanta and Palermo. They would actually be in the relegation places but for the deduction of six points from Siena for alleged match fixing. There are a lot of missing player in the squad, defender Garics Gyorgy, striker Robert Acquafresca, forward Henri Gimenez, defender Cesare Natali, defender Frederic Sorensen, goalkeeper Gianluca Curci and team captain Daniel Portanova are injured, while forward Manolo Gabbiadini is suspended. In addition this absentees Bologna’s play is rather counterattack, and this strategy requires the fast players, nad the stabil defence. Now there will be no forwards and confident defenders.
Lazio have made a decent start to the season and they are currently 5th after 15 games. Lazio come into the tie on the back of a 4-1 win at Maribor in the Europa League that secured them top place in Group J. Coach Vladimir Petkovic experimented with a 3-4-3 formation and despite the margin of victory, was not entirely happy with his team’s performance. The opening scorer was Libor Kozak, who will likely retain his place in the starting line-up, because Miroslav Klose again expected to be missing through injury. Coach Petkovic is also without regulars Federico Marchetti, Abdoulay Konko and Andrea Dias, while Mauro Zarate, Tommaso Rocchi and Christian Brocchi are also unavailable for various reasons.
Lazio has not used to play open, so to Bologna would be difficult even with a full team. But there will be a lot of missing player from the two main Bologna’s section: from the defence and the wings. I can see, that Bologna’s counterattacks will be death. If their play will be poorer, Lazio will carry the absent of Klose. I can see an away win, but I should safe it.
