Cagliari – Inter 29.09.2013

Cagliari started the new season with a 2:1 win over Atalanta in the first round, but since then they failed to repeat such result.

The Sardinians are without a single victory in the next four matches, even suffered only one defeat, from AC Milan at San Siro. The remaining three games ended with draw – against Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Livorno. The coach Ivo Pulga should be satisfied with the attacking line as his team managed to score in every game so far, but it is the defence which is a concern. Cagliari had also conceded goals in every match.

Inter are in fantastic run in the new season. They have four victories and one draw in the first five rounds of Serie A. By the way, the only draw was obtained against the reigning champions Juventus.

The coach Walter Mazzarri is doing an excellent job and the fans are satisfied. The atmosphere in the squad is positive, while the players confidence are high. They showed a big character on Thursday night when managed to turn around the deficit against Fiorentina. La Viola had one goal advantage until 20 minutes before the end of the match, but Esteban Cambiasso and Jonathan scored two late goals for Inter. That was the first time since the win over Catania in March last season that Inter had successfully overturned a result. The victory over Fiorentina followed the big 7:0 win over Sassuolo last weekend. We have to respect the fact that Inter players scored nine goals on the last two Serie A games. The Nerazzurri are currently on the second position with 13 points, just two points behind the leader Roma.

I believe Inter are closer to the victory here. It is true they are guests on this match, but Cagliari won’t have a real fans’ support as this match will be played at Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste. As You probable know, the Stadio Sant’Elia have still not met safety standards. I dare to write that Inter players will have a bigger support here. The distance between Trieste and Milan is around 400 km (less then 4 hours), while Cagliari fans have to spend 18 hours (the route includes a ferry) to arrive in Trieste.

At the end I will mention that Inter have five victories against Cagliari on the last eight Serie A matches, with two draws and only one defeat.
