Fiorentina – Torino 21.04.2013

Following the 2:0 win against Atalanta away from home, Fiorentina are very motivated to build on the promising displays of late when they take on Torino, who have been pretty awful on the road in the last few rounds. The hosts are likely to win this encounter as they are eager to return to the Champions League.

Fiorentina reinforced their squad with 18 new players before the start of the campaign and Vincenzo Montella;s side have been absolutely brilliant in the opening fixtures. Nevertheless, the team have been struggling at the start of the New Year and that is why they are currently sitting in 4th position in the Serie A standings, four points adrift of Champions League places. Viola have became one of the most entertaining sides in the Serie A, and it is important to note that the team scored no less than 12 goals in last six fixtures, which is two goals per game. Fiorentina are now looking for another win in Serie A as they welcome Torino, who have been far from excellent on the travels of late. Viola have won four of last five matches against Torino at Artemio Franchi, which has become a real fortress over the last few years. Fiorentina are in a very good form at the moment and they can, therefore, be expected to continue their winning run this weekend.

Having finally returned to the Serie A last summer, Torino are likely to survive in the elite division, as the team currently occupy 15th position in the standings, and are eight points clear of the relegation zone. Following the 2:1 defeat to Roma at their Stadio Olimpico, Torino now travel to Florence in order to pick up at least one point from Artemio Franchi, which is easier said then done, as the team have lost last three games on the road. Giampiero Ventura’s men will again adopt counterattacking style, but I am not sure whether this kind of approach is going help I Granata avoid defeat this weekend. Nevertheless, Torino’s showings up front have been promising of late, with the team netting eight goals in last four games in all competitions, but Jean-François Gillet also conceded ten goals in the last three away matches in the league. Taking everything into account, with Torino completely out of form at the moment, the team are likely to continue their losing run on the travels.
