The Tuesday evening sax five teams guarantee their places for 2012/13’s UEFA Champions League’s group stage. Those teams were Udinese, Anderlecht, Malaga, Dinamo Zagreb and Bate Borisov.
There is no doubt that the most exciting fixture was played between Italian side Udinese and Portuguese visitors Braga at Friuli Stadium. After both games have ended in 1-1 draw, two sides had to go a penalty shout-out as extra time was not able to decide between two teams. At the end, Ruben Michael’s cool-blooded penalty took Braga into the group stage. Of course, Maicousel was the unhappiest man of the night as he missed a penalty with the Panenka style.
Every team will not forget about Tuesday night; but it should be a memorable time of their club histroy as they earned their first spot of group stages for the first time. Spanish side recorded a goalless draw in Greece against Panathinaikos after defeating them with two goals to nil at home.
Early goal from Tonel ensured Dinamo Zagreb end the top club competition dream of Maribor.
In a high stressed match, the Croatian side managed to win their second spot for group stages in a row.
Anderlecht managed to win their group stage ticket with two late goals from Mbokani and Yakovenko. In the first leg, they have recorded a narrow defeat against AEL in Cyprus.
Bate Borisov needed an away draw against Hapoel Kiryat in order to move the group stage. After they recorded a deserved home victory, they answered with the injury time goal of Pavlov to Lencse’s lovely free-kick goal.
