Ghana U20 – USA U20 27.06.2013

Having shared the spoils with Francein the second round, USA U20 team take on Ghana in the last round of the group stage at the World Cup in Turkey.

This is a must-win situation for the Americans who are still in the race for the last 16 round.

After disappointing in their opening matches at the World Cup Ghana are likely to be eliminated from the tournament. The Ghanaians opened their World Cup campaign with a 3:0 defeat to France and the team continued with poor performances in the second round. Ghana lost 1:0 to Spain who could even have recorded a more convincing victory. Ghana have nothing to play for in the last game of the tournament and I can not believe that they are considered favourites by the bookies in the clash against in-form USA side. Ghana is yet to score a goal at the tournament and they will surely put a lot of effort to find the net in the match against United States of America. Nevertheless, even if the Ghanaians manage to score a goal, they are unlikely to get something from this encounter.

United States of America produced attack-minded display in their opener against Spain which proved fatal for the team. Nonetheless, it was evident that the young Americans have a certain quality in their squad. The following clash against France 1:1 was a perfect proof for that and the Americans even missed a chance to score from the penalty spot. USA U20 are still in the race for the last 16 round as the best four third-placed sides reach the next round. In order to advance to the next round USA need to outplay Ghana in the last round of the group stage, and that does not sound like a mission impossible. The Americans are in much better form than the Ghanians, therefore, I am tempted to back them for their first victory at the World Cup in Turkey. In case of U.S. win over Ghana and a Spain win over France, combined with the Americans making up a goal differential deficit of five, the Americans would finish second in Group A.
