Needing a win following two successive defeats in Serie A, Lazio are expected to go all guns blazing at Siena, a team that have been in fine form over the last few weeks.
Lazio largely impressed last season, finishing the league campaign in fourth place and leaving the likes of Napoli, Roma and Inter to trail in their wake, so no wonder the squad underwent minimal changes this summer. However, Vladimir Petkovic was brought to replace Eduardo Reja and the Bosnian coach enjoyed a very good start to his career at Olimpico. He led Lazio to three straight victories in Serie A, while helping the side qualify for Europa League group stages and bring one point from their first group fixture at White Hart Lane. The team have since suffered back to back defeats to Napoli and Genoa, but the game against Siena is a perfect opportunity for the hosts to return to the right track.
Siena faced a difficult task of staying alive after being slapped with a 6-point penalty for their involvement in the match-fixing scandal, but the team have done surprisingly well to neutralize the deduction. Robur have already taken 8 points, meaning they now stand on 2, and need just one more victory to escape the relegation zone. However, team’s recent performances have left a lot to be desired, as Siena were very fortunate to pick up so many points after being outplayed by Udinese, Inter and Bologna, so it appears the time has come for them to be punished for a string of under-par showings.
Lazio have a much quality team so victory on home field is very very possible.
