Man City – Wigan 24.09.2013

Manchester City will be looking to get revenge on Wigan for the embarrassing defeat in the last seasonˈs FA Cup final.

The two teams square off against each other in the Capital One Cup and it remains to be seen which side will make it to the next round of the competition.

Manchester City did remarkably well to trash their bitter rivals United in the Manchester Derby. The Citizens have continued their brilliant run on home soil, but in order to regain the title, Manuel Pellegriniˈs men will have to improve their away record. The partnership of Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo has totally settled and the Spanish duo will be very important for the Eiihad stadium this term. The Citizens now take on Wigan in the Capital One Cup match and they will be surely motivated to get revenge on the Championship side for a shocking the last-minute defeat in the last seasonˈs FA Cup final. Manuel Pellegrini is likely to make some changes to the starting line-up, but the team have a very long bench and a number of quality players, therefore, there is every chance the hosts will emerge triumphant on Tuesday night.

Even though Wigan clinched the title in the FA Cup last season, the Latics failed to keep their place in the Premier League. Thanks to a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final, Owen Coyleˈs team secured their place in the Europa League and the they kicked off their campaign with a 0-0 away draw with Belgian side Zulte-Waregem. Meanwhile, the Latics have been having their ups and downs in the Championship and they are currently sitting in 11th place in the league standings. At the weekend Wigan returned to the winning ways following a 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town at their DW Stadium. Wigan will play on four fronts this season and should not be a positive for the team, therefore, I am not sure if they will give 100% to make it into the next round of the Capital One Cup. I belive the Latics are likely to get trashed at the Etihad stadium on Tuesday night so in best case we will see at least three goals.
