Manchester United hope to become champions of England for the 20th time when they take on Aston Villa. The Red Devils’ showings have been excellent since the start of the new season and they absolutely deserve another Premier League title. Following the 2:1 defeat in the local derby to Manchester City, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men returned to winning ways at Britannia Stadium and then played out a draw against West Ham. The team have scored four goals in those games and they are likely to continue their goal-scoring run when they welcome Aston Villa, one of the worst travellers in the league. With Michael Carrick buoyed by his nomination for the PFA Player of the Year and Van Persie back in his scoring form, Manchester United should produce another attacking performance against the Villans. When two teams met earlier this year United won 3:2, although the Red Devils came from two goals behind.
Former Villa man Ashley Young has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury. Paul Scholes has not yet overcome his injury. Nemanja Vidic could be rested after he played two games in a row
Aston Villa are set to fight for the Premier League survival for yet another term. Although Paul Lambert’s men are still relegation-threatened, the team have lost just one of their last five fixtures in the Premier League. The uptrend in form happened at just the right time and the Villans are currently sitting in the 17th position in the standings, three points clear of the relegation zone, meaning they could go all guns blazing at United at Old Trafford as they have nothing to lose in this clash. Aston Villa’s performances up front have been promising of late as the team managed to score at least one goal in last five league games. Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor have been in great form of late and the duo is surely capable of scoring at least one goal against Manchester United. With Aston Villa brimming with confidence and not afraid to attack their rivals, there is every chance we will see goals galore at Old Trafford.
