Palermo – Siena 10.03.2013

This is “do or die” match for Palermo.

The Sicilians are on the last place and this is the crucial match for them. Both teams are deeply involved into the relegation battle and both teams are in the drop zone, five points from the safety. This is a perfect opportunity for Palermo to get three points. Palermo recent form is solid – no defeat in the last four rounds. But Palermo have no win either, all four matches finished with draw.

The President Maurizio Zamparini has changed too many coaches this season. At the moment Gian Piero Gasperini is in charge, but this is his second spell. Gasperini has no fresh injury or suspension worries, but long-term injury victims Abel Hernandez and Andrea Mantovani are still unavailable. The midfielder Edgar Barreto is doubtful.

I already wrote Siena is in the relegation zone. But I rate their current form as bad, they lost the previous two matches in Serie A. The defeat from Juventus was somehow expected, but the home loss from Atalanta was surely a disappointment. Siena failed to score a single goal on the mentioned two games. I believe the players confidence are not high at the moment. This could be a problem, specially when they play away from home. Even more as Stadio Renzo Barbera is a hot place for every guest. For this match the coach Beppe Iachini will be missing the injured captain Simone Vergassola.

At the end I will mention that Palermo have won the last three home games against Siena in Serie A. I believe Palermo will use the home advantage and will win this match.
