Sutjeska – Sheriff Tiraspol 23.07.2013
Sutjeska welcome Sheriff in the return leg of the Champions League qualifiers.
The Montenegrins have a slim advantage ahead of the clash, but it remains to be seen if they are capable of making it to the third round of the process.
Boosted by a 1:1 draw with Sheriff in the first leg of Champions League qualifiers, Sutjeska take on Moldavian champions at home soil. Last season FC Sutjeska clinched their first Montenegrin First League title, with the team finishing the season above Montenegrin giants Buducnost Podgorica. Even though they stayed without Djordjije Cvetkovic and Djordje Susnjar during the transfer window, Sutjeska did remarkably well to play out a 1:1 draw with Sheriff in the second round of Champions League qualifiers, first leg. The Montenegrins will surely try to keep a clean sheet in the return leg in front of home fans, but that it is easier said than done, considering that the Moldavian champions failed to realize a number of clear chances to score in the first leg. I believe that Sutjestka are unlikely to make it through to the next round of the process.

After yet another brilliant season in Moldavian championship, Sheriff Tiraspol clinched the title and secured their place in the Champions League qualifiers. Three seasons ago Sheriff were on the verge of making it to the group stages of the Champions League. Sheriff defeated Dinamo Tirana in the second qualifying round (3:1, 0:1). Then, the team overcame Dinamo Zagreb on penalties (1:1, 1:1, 6:5) to reach the play-off round, the final stage before the Champions League Group stage. In the play-off round against Swiss champions FC Basel, Sheriff lost 1:0 the first leg in Switzerland before being trashed 3:0 at home. Sheriff did not start this seasonˈs Champions League campaign in great manner as the Moldavians played out a 1:1 draw with Sutjeska in the first leg of the second round. Nevertheless, with the club chiefs bringing a number of quality players into the squad, Sheriff are still favourites to advance to the next round of the process. Sheriff were a better side in the first leg, they conceded an unlucky goal, meaning that there is every chance the team will overcome the Montenegrins in the return leg.
