Wigan – Swansea 07.05.2013

Wigan Athletic face another must-win game in midweek when they welcome out-of-form Swansea City. With the visitors lacking of motivation in the season finale, there is every chance the hosts will win this important match.

It’s same old for Wigan Athletic who are fighting for the Premier League survival for yet another term. Following a brilliant 3:2 win against West Bromwich Albion on the road, the Latics are just two points adrift of Sunderland, who are currently in the safe zone. Next up are Swansea and this is a must-win game for Wigan, with Roberto Martinezˈs men facing a difficult task in the next two rounds (Manchester City and Arsenal). James Mc Arthur was a game-changer against WBA meaning the midfielder could replace Jordi Gomez in the starting line-up and help his team win this encounter. The Latics used to win against Swansea in the past, but the team are on a two-game losing run against the Swans in the leaning, meaning they should be looking for revenge at DW Stadium. Roberto Martinez need to go all guns blazing at Swansea and I believe they are likely to pick up vital three points in the race for the top flight survival.

As expected, Swansea City continued their winless run on the weekend, having shared the spoils with Manchester City at their Liberty Stadium. The Swans are still in the top part of the Premier League standings, but they have nothing to play for with three games to spare. Michael Laudrup will surely continue his rotation policy and could even rest some of the first team players in order not to suffer an injury in the season finale. Swansea have not recorded a victory in the league since December 2012 when they defeated Fulham 2:1, meaning the Swans face problems when playing away from home. Taking all into account, Swansea are having another promising season, following their return to the elite division, but as the season is coming to an end, the team faces a dip in form and that is why they are likely to continue their winless run at DW stadium.
