Romanian coaches seem to have lots of luck in the Russian league. After Dan Petrescu, who is now acomplished at Dinamo Moscow after making miracles with Kuban Krasnodar, it’s Dorinel Munteanu’s time to try the impossible: save Mordova Saransk from relegation.
To be honest, I don’t think even the biggest fan of Mordovia saw it coming when they won against Anzhi last week with 2-0. The roster and first lineup of Mordovia is not great at all, but as I saw it contains players bought from the Romanian league like Oprita, Khubutia, Perendija, Bozovic so coach Dorinel Munteanu can explain himself very good to the team. He knows his players and he knows how to make the best of them.
When he won the Romanian championship with Otelul Galati a couple of years ago, Otelul Galati was a relegation contender at best with unknown and supposably weak players. But he took a non valuable team, relegation doomed and won the title. And he seems to be on a good road in Saransk, too.
Today he faces Zenit St. Petersburg, a team in a clearly poor form. However, I find it hard to believe Mordovia could win another one here. But, never say never, because Dorinel Munteanu seems to be blessed this days so I expect Mordovia to score again, even twice. And thinking that Zenit is Zenit, they should score a couple of goals two, I’m going to push my luck and pick a over 3.5 goals scored. Wouldn’t bet on a Zenit win, though.
As a PS, forget about the statistics for Mordovia Saransk so far this season, the Dorinel Munteanu era started only with the game against Anzhi so everything before it’s irrelevant but we will see goals today.
